Our journey, this month, has brought us to the Deutschland, otherwise popularly known as “Germany”. This is a first for us since TopMunch is traveling to Germany once again, after huge popular demand from fellow TopMunchers. Germany's capital and largest metropolis is Berlin, while its largest conurbation is the Ruhr, with its main centers at Dortmund and Essen. The country's other major cities are Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Leipzig, Bremen, Dresden, Hanover and Nuremberg.
Germany, a founding member of the European Union since 1993 is the most populous state in the European Union. Germany has the world's fourth-largest economy by nominal GDP, is both the world's third-largest exporter and importer of goods and promotes educational initiatives as seen with its tuition-free university education. Germany is home to some of the most renowned classical musicians such as Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and some modern composers like Hans Zimmer; inventors and scientists such as Johannes Guttenberg (modern printing press), Konrad Zuse (first computer), Albert Einstein, Max Planck, Erwin Schrodinger, Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen; automotive giants like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volkswagen, etc. Germany thus induces a positive effect in the present day and age with a lot to offer as well.
Being home to the modern car, the automotive industry in Germany is regarded as one of the most competitive and innovative in the world and is the fourth largest by production. Germany is recognized for its large portion of specialized small and medium enterprises, known as the “Mittelstand” model. Around 1,000 of these companies are global market leaders in their segment and are labeled hidden champions. Berlin provides a thriving, cosmopolitan hub for startup companies and is thus viewed as a leading location for venture capital funded firms in the European Union.
